Scubba Diving Accident

As some of you may have heard by now what happened to me over the holidays. I thought I wrote a general notel letting everybody know where I am and what is going on. It’s a long story but basically I went scuba diving and I went deeper while I was that the pressure from the ocean popped my ears and caused me to loose my hearing…

I have been seeing a couple of different Drs. and they have all had different options. The inner parts of my ears are the ones that are damaged, swollen, and something else is wrong with them. I really cannot hear anything at all form my left ear, they tested it and I am 100% deft from that one. Then from my right one I can only hear like 30%, so it's pretty messed up that one as well. If I blast out music, I have absolutely no idea what it’s playing all I hear is just a beep and sounds but cannot differentiate the song.

What happened was that I did not compensate accurately my air with my body when I was down that I blew my ears off, if that makes any sense to you. The deeper you go down, the more pressure you put to your body, specially to your ears and lungs. This is why it is important to calibrate and compensate constant air for your lungs and ears to work properly under water and not “pop”. The whole thing started to happen when I was dumb and started chasing a giant turtle (and by giant I mean it) it was sooo pretty and big (worth taking the risk) :) I got distracted chasing it and went deeper without realizing how much pressure my ears and lungs were getting. Once the turtle hid in a coral, me and the other people I was with started touch it and play with it. Then we started to come up, we were 30 feet under water and that's when stuff happened. My face got pretty messed up as well, I looked like I got in a fight with Mike Tyson or Shark Tyson under water cause by the time I came up, my eyes were so swollen and redish/purple around them like little black eyes. My eyes are fine now thank God, but this whole thing happened as well for not calibrating sufficient air inside my mask. I created a ton of pressure that my eyes got like sucked in a way, as funny as that may sound but that is mainly what happened to that part of my body, my ears on the other hand they both popped.

The weird thing right now is that all I see right now its how my family interacts with each other but its so weird to not hear anything at all. I'm doing great mainly, I'm madder at myself and stressed with all this situation going on. It’s kind of hard to believe that it is happening. I been seeing different opinions and getting different treatment, so far all the treatment that I am receiving only with time I will be able to see a difference (hopefully). The absolute worst WORTS worst scenario will be that I need to use a hearing aid machine in the future if none of this works out. I have 9 days to IMPROVE and get better before I get in a flight, so Mr. Healing time… please come soon!!!

Hope you had great holidays and Happy New Year! I miss all of you. Can't wait to be back and share a wonderful 2011 year with all of you!

Take care and thanks for staying in contact or wanting to hear how I was doing, you are all the best!

All my best,

Mariana
